Actor Sir Anthony Hopkins has released a new classical music album titled Life Is a Dream, stepping away from the film camera to offer a intimate reflection on memory, passage of time, and mortality.
Speaking with music broadcaster Megan Burslem about the record, the two-time Academy Award winner described the project as a deeply personal compilation of orchestral compositions shaped across decades of his life.
The release marks a rare musical foray for the 88-year-old Welsh actor, who trained as a pianist before embarking on his six-decade acting career.
What Is ‘Life Is a Dream’?
Life Is a Dream is a full-length orchestral album featuring original compositions written and conceptualized by Hopkins, performed by full symphonic arrangements.
The record explores several themes central to the actor’s later years:
- Autobiographical Memory: Pieces inspired by Hopkins’s childhood in Margam, Wales, and his early years before entering the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
While widely known for his cinematic roles in The Silence of the Lambs and The Father, Hopkins has composed music privately for most of his adult life. His 2011 composition And The Waltz Goes On gained widespread recognition after being recorded and performed globally by Dutch violinist André Rieu.
